5.13. Replacement of cooling liquid

GENERAL INFORMATION

Stopper of a drain opening of a radiator

Fill in the cooling liquid meeting standards of TL VW 774 D (see the tab. The recommended cooling liquids).

Depending on ambient temperature the concentrate of cooling liquid needs to be parted with the distilled water according to the tab. Norms of cultivation of a concentrate of cooling liquid.


Prevention

Replace cooling liquid on the cold engine.


It is strictly forbidden to pour out cooling liquid on the earth or in system of the sewerage as the ethylene glycol which is contained in it is highly toxic poison. Its hit in ground waters will lead to adverse ecological effects for the environment.

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Uncover a broad tank.
2. Remove an antisplash guard of the engine.
3. Substitute under a branch pipe of 1 drain opening capacity for collecting the fulfilled liquid (see rice. Stopper of a drain opening of a radiator). For convenience of work put on a hose a branch pipe.
4. Turn off a stopper 2 drain openings.
5. On models with diesel engines weaken an inhaling of a collar and disconnect a hose 1 from the forward union of the heat exchanger 2. Wait when all liquid merges, and connect a hose 1 to the forward union of the heat exchanger (3 – an oil filter).
6. Wrap a stopper 2 (see rice. Stopper of a drain opening of a radiator) drain opening.
7. Fill in new cooling liquid in a broad tank to a tag of "max".
8. Establish a cover on a broad tank.
9. Launch the engine and let's it work, the radiator fan will not turn on yet.
10. Check the level of cooling liquid in a broad tank and if necessary add liquid.
11. On the heated-up engine the level of cooling liquid has to be in a broad tank on a tag of "max" or is slightly higher. On the cold engine the level of liquid should not fall below a tag of "min".

Prevention

On the heated-up engine the cooling system is under pressure. Therefore remove a stopper of a broad tank on the cold engine; if it is necessary to open a tank on the hot engine, cover a stopper with a rag and remove it an outstretched arm.
