8.5. The steering mechanism (with the amplifier)
GENERAL INFORMATION

The scheme of steering with the EPHS amplifier (Electrically Powered Hydraulic Steering)

The amplifier is equipped with the gear pump with the drive from the electric motor. A receiver with valves, the pump and the electric motor form the pump unit. The control unit of the amplifier on the basis of the speed of turn of a steering wheel, speed of the movement of the car and frequency of rotation of a bent shaft regulates the volume of the given liquid in system due to change of frequency of rotation of a shaft of the electric motor of the drive of the pump.

Protection of turning on of the pump unit in case of malfunction of elements of the amplifier, onboard network of the car, an overheat of the pump unit or the road accident is provided. After operation of protection as a result of an overheat of the pump unit it can be disconnected, having switched off ignition and having repeatedly launched the engine in 15–20 min. (that the pump unit cooled down).

In other cases protection needs to be turned off, having cleared contents of memory of malfunctions (at service station).

Prevention

The steering mechanism is not subject to repair, in case of malfunction it needs to be replaced assembled. When replacing the steering mechanism disconnect from it steering drafts (see subsection 8.5.4).
